In the 1600's there was a period of extraordinary speculation in tulip contracts in the Netherlands that has been referred to as "Tulip Mania." While the tulip markets eventually crashed, the tulip became a Dutch icon. This is despite the technicality that the tulip did not originate in the Netherlands, but rather came from central Asia and what was called the Ottoman Empire.

Financial speculation aside, Stephanie readily admits to still being touched by "Tulip Mania." She finds tulips a feast and a delight, and doesn't tire of trying to capture images reflecting the tulip's external and internal worlds. This collection focuses on both the colors and shapes of their external structure, as well as the exotic surprises deep inside the delicate petals.
