Living in the wine country, we are surrounded by vineyards that become the most gorgeous tapestry of colors in the fall. We are also surrounded by thousands of photographs - some of them quite exquisite - of this beauty. I wasn't sure that I could find images that would be of interest to me.

However, in the spirit of learning how to see, and see differently, I wandered amongst the vines. And it turns out that I did find images that excited me, giving birth to the two collections that make up the"Architecture in the Vineyard" series. The series consist of images that, in different ways, focus on details in the vines and leaves that seem to have an artistic, architectural feel.

This first collection, "The Internal World" came about because while I was wanderning amongst the grapevines, I began to notice the interplay of light, shadow, color and reflection on the leaves. To me, this focus on the internal world of structure and color was facinating and beautiful. Some of the beauty was in the ambiguity of the close view - while some images clearly are of leaves, others are much less obviously identifiable and, to me, even more interesting.

The second in the series, "Ties that Bind" - focuses on the architecture of the branches and tendrils and their relation to the vines and vineyard structures. These images will be presented in another collection.
