"Botanical Heaven" exists and it is near Lisse (outside Amsterdam) in the Netherlands. Originally a castle estate, Keukenhof Gardens now consists of about 80 acres of beautifully tended gardens which have been open to the public for springtime viewing since 1949. Self described as the most beautiful place in the world, and the most photographed place in the world, each year about 7 million flower bulbs are planted in over 1600 varieties.
But these are just statistics. It is hard to adequately convey the beauty of the place. It seems that there is one magnificent vista after another, and after a while the masses of color and shape can become delightfully overwhelming. In addition to the extraordinary beauty of the flowers, through the auspices of "Art Keukenhof" there are marvellous works of art placed throughout the grounds. Keukenhof is a luxurious gift to the senses and the heart, particularly when life in the "real world" can be challenging.
